Does God really answer our prayers?

It's quite unfortunate that many people out there feels that God does not answer our prayer requests. But such preposterous belief is to the extreme and I don't subscribe to such absurd assertion. Does God hears us and answers our prayer requests? The answer to this question is yes, he is a prayer answering God.

Scriptural command to pray

God's word is filled with exhortations for Christians to pray. Apostle Paul in his epistle to the church at thessalonica, he wrote: pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5: 17). Here we are being told to pray regularly, to pray consistently. In the book of Romans, it is written: Rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer (Romans 12; 12). Here the inspired apostle encourages us to continue in this important spiritual exercise which is prayer. In the gospel of Luke, it is also written: Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart (Luke 18; 1). Here the author is saying that we ought always to pray and not to faint. As Christian's we are exhorted to persevere in prayer and not to lose heart no matter what. The bible is full of encouragement for believers to pray.

Examples of answered prayers in the bible

"It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, "Because I have asked him of the Lord"--- 1 Samuel 1; 20

In biblical times, it was considered a shame for a woman to be barren. Hannah cried out to the God of Israel in prayer and the Lord answered her supplications.

1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother named him Jabez saying, "Because I bore him with pain." Now Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm that it may not pain me!" And God granted him what he requested.

"Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me-to keep me from exalting myself! Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me"-- 2 Corinthians 12: 7-8.

Paul sought the Lord three times that the thorn in his flesh might be taken away from him, and he received this answer, "He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness"- 2 Corinthians 12; 9. In response to his petition, the Lord gave him sufficient grace to be able to endure the trials and persecutions which befell him, as a result of the glorious gospel of Christ

It is evident that there are biblical proofs that God answers the prayers of his children.

God answers our prayers today

If God bids us to pray, then certainly he will answer our prayers. Prayer is not a means we can use to manipulate God to fulfill our heart desires. If our prayers are consistent with his will concerning our lives, we can rest assure that our requests will be answered, for it is written: This is the confidence we have in his presence: if we ask anything that accords with his will, he hears us. - 1 John 5:14

And if we know that he hears us- whatever we ask- then we know that we have what we have asked from him. - 1 John 5:15.

We must see to it that we pray in accordance to God's will for us. To pray in accordance to his will, our prayers must emanate from the scriptures, and also to pray by the leading of the Spirit (Jude 20).

Sometimes, our prayer requests takes time before they begin to manifest, but we must understand that God sees the end from the beginning, and he works out all things according to the counsel of his will and for our own good, even though it might delay

At times too, God may reject our prayer requests, because we don't need what we asking for at that moment. But what he does is to give us something better, he gives us what we actually need. There is no such thing as a wasted prayer in the life of a Christian. God always hears our prayers, his ears are always attentive to hear us. So let us come to him in faith and to fellowship with him in prayer and we will surely receive answers to our prayers. God bless you
